
The first thing that hits you inside a bracket factory isn’t the size of the place. It’s the rhythm. Coils of cold rolled steel feed into the stamping lines and every few seconds a press thumps and another wall plate drops into a bin, and the whole building keeps that beat all day. If you’re planning to import TV brackets from China, ten minutes standing beside that press will teach you more than a month of email ever will. Steel, welds, finish. Those three things decide almost everything about a mount, and you can judge all three in person before you commit a deposit to anyone.
Skip the showroom, find the steel racks
Every mount factory has a showroom wall of televisions hanging at perfect angles. It proves nothing. Ask to see the raw material store instead, first thing, before anyone’s had a chance to tidy it.
Cold rolled steel arrives as coils or cut sheets, and each batch should carry a mill certificate stating grade and thickness. Check the gauge on that certificate against the gauge in your quotation. They don’t always match. A fixed mount rated for a big screen commonly runs on noticeably thicker steel than a slim tilting model, and a supplier who can’t produce certificates for the material sitting right there on the floor is asking you to take the load rating on faith. I wouldn’t.
While you’re there, run a finger along the edge of a freshly stamped part. Clean edge, no burrs: sharp tooling and someone maintaining the dies. Ragged edges mean tired dies, and tired dies drift out of tolerance from one run to the next. None of this needs an engineering degree. It needs ten unhurried minutes and the nerve to ask what you’re looking at.
Watch one weld being made, then look at fifty finished ones
Full motion mounts live or die on their welded joints and pivots, so plant yourself at the welding stations for a while. A well run factory welds in fixtures: each arm sits in a jig that holds the parts in the same position every single time. You want even, consistent beads with no gaps and no piles of spatter. Ask how welders are qualified. Ask how often a joint gets cut open for a section check.
Then walk over to finished goods and pull a stack of brackets from the current batch. Fifty units tell you what one polished sample never will. If the beads look different from unit to unit, the fixtures are worn, or the process depends on whoever happens to be on shift. Either way, that’s your problem six months from now.
What goes in the notebook
Buyers ask what we actually write down on accompanied visits around Guangzhou and Foshan. The short version:
- Mill certificates for the steel currently in production, matched against your spec
- The maintenance log for the stamping dies that will make your parts
- Welding fixtures actually in use, not parts held together by hand
- A working load test rig, with records kept for each batch
- Plating or powder coating records, including salt spray reports
- A kitting station where screws and spacers are counted into bags by scale
- Carton drop testing, because heavy steel punishes weak packaging
None of it takes long. Together it separates a factory that engineers its mounts from one that copies whatever design passed through the workshop last year and hopes the steel holds.
Ask for a load test you can stand next to
Serious factories test at a multiple of the rated load, and many keep a simple rig with weight plates near the line. Don’t settle for the certificate framed on the wall. Ask them to hang the test weight while you watch. Look for deflection in the arm. Listen for creaks. Check for movement where the wall plate meets the fixture. Then ask how often the test actually runs: every batch, every shift, or only when a customer’s visiting. The honest answer is worth more than the number printed on the retail box.
While you’re at the bench, put a tape measure across the VESA hole patterns on several units. A misplaced hole is a quiet defect. It only shows itself when a customer is kneeling behind a television with a screwdriver and a fading sense of humour.
The finish, and the little bag nobody opens
Black powder coat looks identical in photographs and quite different in daylight, so compare texture and gloss across a handful of units and ask what film thickness the line targets and how they measure it. Then open a hardware bag. Honestly, missing spacers and wrong screws generate more complaints than bent steel ever does, which is why a tidy kitting station with counting scales is one of the most reassuring sights in the whole building.
If you’ll be selling under your own name, the visit is also where private label work starts. A printed logo on the wall plate, a retail box with clean artwork, a paper drilling template, a manual written in natural English: these change how the product feels on the shelf. Where the presses actually run
Bracket production concentrates wherever metal stamping is strong. Guangdong has stamping workshops spread around Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhongshan, and Ningbo up the coast runs another long established stamping and hardware cluster. Plenty of buyers who import TV brackets from China sample from both regions before settling, since freight routes and tooling habits differ between the two. That’s a sensible instinct, not indecision.

How can I tell whether a stated load rating is realistic?
Ask to see the rig and the batch records, not the framed certificate. A factory that tests routinely will hang the weights for you without hesitation, and the steel gauge on the mill certificate should sit comfortably with the rating being claimed. Hesitation is an answer too.
Which mount types should a first order include?
Many buyers start with one fixed model, one tilting and one full motion, across the screen sizes most common in their market. That keeps the order manageable while showing you how the factory handles three different levels of mechanical difficulty.
Can one factory make fixed, tilting and full motion mounts equally well?
Sometimes. Less often than the catalogues suggest. Full motion arms demand better welding, better pivots and tighter tolerances than a flat fixed plate, so judge a factory by its hardest product, never its easiest.
